But repeating them over and over without shifting the meaning keeps you stuck. Understand your story but stop feeding them because you are reinforcing the pattern.

Years ago, a brief dating relationship cracked open a deep childhood wound I hadn’t fully healed. It was the one domino knocked over that healed all the rest. ...when she compared me to her ex, I noticed my body tensed up. That night, instead of distracting myself, I sat and breathed into the discomfort.

Taking responsibility for the meanings you’ve assigned—no matter how young you were when they were formed—is the fastest way to create change.

You start with excitement. You try the new thing. But then... you stall, self-sabotage, bounce to the next shiny object. In short you have no accountability to maintain the new way of doing things. You resort back to old habits and patterns.
Why? Because not only does trauma hijack your nervous system and creates unconscious impulses, our brains love what is familiar and will slip back into old patterns until the news ones are embodied. Until you release the old emotional residue, your brain will always try to “protect” you from the very changes you’re trying to make. Those coping patterns have a million faces. My encouragement is to pick a lane and ride out the impulse to "learn another model."
